Moorpark College’s Career and Transfer Center will host its annual Career Week starting Monday, March 11 through Saturday, March 16, featuring a job fair, workshops, and activities throughout the week.

The week-long event is meant to help students get part-time or full-time jobs, internships, apprenticeships, or networking experience. The fair is meant to create opportunities for students to connect with employers and learn about future opportunities that can benefit their future. This event has been an ongoing annual event since 2004.

Former Moorpark College student, Amanda Baker, a game designer who graduated last semester, received a 3-D design internship from the game design department at Moorpark College. Baker expressed that her internship helped bring her new experiences and beneficial skills, such as time management.

“Internships help bring valuable hands-on experience that you don’t get in classrooms,” Baker said. “It’s important to stay organized and get started early.”

Here is an overview for the week, broken down by Moorpark College’s Placement Project Specialist, Celine Park, who is also the Career Week event coordinator.

Career Strategist Digital Badge workshop – 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

For the first time, a Career Strategist Digital Badge workshop has been organized for Career Week. This workshop is meant to help students look for careers, and develop an online Linkedin resume with a professional photograph included. Linkedin is an online service used for networking and job hiring. This workshop will be led by Santa Barbara City College and a Linkedin representative in LMC 138 and 139.

“Students are going to be learning how to showcase and strategize their career experience, help them identify their strengths, personality style, and career planning,” Park said.

According to Park, a benefit in completing this event is that, “the industry employers know that [students] took this kind of workshop and they have developed competency, learned a skill set and are proficient in this area.”

Students are encouraged to dress business casual because their picture will be taken and it will be uploaded on their Linkedin profile.

Career exploration workshop — 12 p.m. to 1 p.m.

This workshop at Fountain Hall 218 is for students who haven’t declared a major who still need assistance in finding the right career.

This panel will have representatives from the entertainment industry at the Exotic Animal Training and Management (EATM) lecture hall in 208 to show students how to get a foot in the door. This event is tailored for attendees pursuing careers in the television and film and provides them the opportunity to network.
