Scoring a hat-trick, including a beautiful Olympic goal as well as the winning goal during stoppage time, Dejah Wallot gave MC Raiders an important win against a fierce West LA College on Friday afternoon. The win brought the team relief and optimistic mentality after a rocky start to the season with six straight losses and only one victory.

“Some people called it relief, we call it progress,” said head coach Jayro Martinez after the game.

He was optimistic to see results from tactical ideas trained during the week and, most importantly, courage from the ladies knowing they have time to get back on the winning streak. Coach Martinez is ambitious in getting the MC Raiders back in playing good soccer; both tactically and technically, and to remain constant from the remaining season.

MC Raiders’ 4-3 victory over LA Mission was their second win of the season. The Raiders showed good technical skill and, playing their hearts out, were able to come back to a glorious win in front of their home crowd. After giving away a penalty kick during stoppage time, which also meant West LA tying the game, Freshman star of the game, Dejah Wallot, came to the team’s rescue scoring the winning goal just moments after LA Mission had tied the game.

“I asked my teammate for the ball, I was mad after the penalty was given,” said Wallot. “I did not want to lose to this team, so when I got the ball I gave it my all and shot for goal and it went in.”

Wallot’s first goal of the game was an Olympic goal. This goal was scored from the corner kick directly into the net and it is also very rare and difficult to score, even on the professional level.

“My previous coached had taught me how to curve the ball, so when I took the corner I saw the opportunity and went for it,” said Wallot.

Coach Martinez and the MC Raiders will visit Santa Monica College on October 5 looking to solidify their good game from Friday night and start a positive streak in order to maintain good hopes ahead of the conference games.
