From impromptu flash mobs to rehearsed recitals, Dance Club is about students of all levels having an opportunity to learn and have a good time dancing.

“The club is very casual, not intense,” said Dance Club President Miel Apostol. “We have students that range from, ‘I have never danced in my life’ to advanced dancers of different styles, and the club is really all about bringing students on campus together through the gift of dance.”

The club’s gift of dance is not a figure of speech either, clubs on the Moorpark College campus are free to students and benefit from the support of the Associated Students organization and campus funding. Dance Club meets weekly on Wednesdays at 12 p.m. in the dance room in the Performing Arts Center. They also hold extra meetings to rehearse choreography. The space allows them to prepare as a team for events, like their Halloween flash mob that took place last semester.

“We support each other on what we do and have fun,” said club treasurer, Jared Cardiel. “It’s not competitive, very fun and we get to know each other well and are like a family.”

The club is constantly planning for events and welcoming new members, especially now as its leadership prepares to move on.

“The Dance club has started out small but we are growing and we could do so much more, but unfortunately many of the officers are leaving and transferring after this semester,” said Apostol.

Students interested in joining the dance club can attend a meeting or drop a message in the club’s inbox at the campus center Associated Students office.
