After a rocky first game against the Eagles ECNL U-19 team, the Lady Raiders picked up a win against Real So Cal’s U-19 team, 2-1 in a scrimmage Thursday evening.

Within the first few minutes of the game the Lady Raiders showed that they came to win. They were first to every ball, connecting passes, and didn’t stop going until the ball was out of bounds or in the back of the net.

“We played with more confidence,” said Moorpark Girls Soccer assistant coach Geoff Raives. “The girls played, quicker, and played better as a unit against Real, than we did against the Eagles.”

To add onto last years talent, many of the incoming freshmen will have great impact to the team and they showed it. A lot of the freshmen had many key play, that resulted in a first half goal from Angela Hurtado.

“It was a great improvement from last game,” said Sophomore Kelli Matthews. “We have a lot of young, very good players.”

In the second half, Real managed to slip through the defense and score a goal to tie the game. After the goal was scored the Lady Raiders kept fighting. With a couple minuets left in the game Julianne Rodriguez (19), had a slip in between the goal keeper and goal post to get Moorpark the Victory.

“We had a lot better possession this game, and we took control,” said Sophomore Birttany Wilderom.

This year’s Moorpark Women’s soccer team looks to be a promising one. Though they did come out with a victory, like any other team they are looking ahead to better themselves for their next game.

“Though our possession did improve it still could use some work,” said Wilderom. “Other area’s that could use some work are winning balls in the air, and moving forward with ball.”

The Lady Raiders will have their first Preseason game against Santa Monica College, September 3rd, at Santa Monica College.
