Unwinding with some digital relief in a campus arcade

Two characters dance on screen, exchanging blows in a duet that culminates when one falls to ground, knocked out.     This is how some students like to unwind during finals.     “I’ll play against someone even if I know I’m going to lose instantly,” said Jeffrey Marzec, a 20-year-old psychology major who said this while standing in the Moorpark College Arcade. “It doesn’t bother me.     The arcades at the three colleges in the Ventura County Community College District all have different machines or locations.     The main goal of them, however, is to create a sense of community among students as well as give them something to relax with. Pink month storms the nation

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a time for everyone to pull out their pink ribbons and put on their running shoes. Here in California, there are plenty of opportunities for students to help “save the ta-tas”. Several run/walks directly fund the many breast cancer research programs. The most notable of these is the Susan G Komen: Race for the Cure foundation. This year the closest of these 5-kilometer run/walks will be held in San Diego on Nov. 1. Full story

Flying around on broomsticks and dodging self-propelled balls is obviously the stuff of fiction, but at Moorpark College, students are transforming magic into reality with the game of Muggle Quidditch. On Sunday Oct. 4 at 4:30 p.m., fourteen Moorpark students will bring to life the magical game of Quidditch from J.K.
