Ventura College football snatches another win against the Pasadena Lancers for the 3rd consecutive year, with the final score of 31-19.

The Pirates struggled to take the lead during the 1st half only to pull ahead in the 2nd and close out the game with a win.

Sophomore free safety Esa Johnwell, believed that the success came from every single player on the field.

"We played as a unit offensively and defensively and our special teams.  We played sound defense and created turnovers that we capitalized on," said Johnwell.

At the Sportsplex in Ventura, it was the 80th anniversary of the first meeting between the Ventura Pirates and the Pasadena Lancers.

The VC Pirates started off the first quarter with a 10-point lead.  Not too far into the 2nd quarter Pasadena fought back with a 7 yard touchdown pass to tighten up the score 10-7, VC.

With 3:42 left on the clock for the second quarter PCC's quarterback, Hernandez, threw a 59 yard touchdown pass to Jose Rodriguez to end the first half with the score of 13-10 Pasadena.

It wasn't till the end of the 3rd quarter when the Pirates turned the game around with an eventful last two quarters.

With the switching of quarterbacks from Matt Koman to Chase Smith, Smith decided to run the ball through the end zone to take the lead for the Pirates 17-13.

With Pasadena starting to get frantic and make errors Ventura finished out the game with two more touchdowns, allowing Pasadena to score once more before the clock ran out in the fourth.

As the Pirates continue to make improvements and heal up injuries, they move forward toward their next game at home against Cerritos on Oct. 15 at 6 pm.
