The Pirates advanced to the second round of the Ventura College ‘We Play Hard' Men's Basketball tournament after their win Nov. 10 over Miramar College, 82-69. A great start for the Pirates season debut.
Freshman guard, Josh Marcus, has high hopes for this season to be a successful one.
"I see our team going as far as we want," said Marcus. "As long as we find the chemistry we need to make us a championship team."
Within the first four minutes of the game VC was already up 5-0, creating excitement early with a jaw-dropping dunk by sophomore forward, Corey Hall.
Miramar College had a tough time defending the inside of the key. Their defense was also having difficulty defending Pirates sophomore guard Austin Ramlijak.
Ramlijak had the hot hand, he hit two three pointers which brought the score up to 13-2 in favor of VC. The Pirates kept a comfortable ten point lead throughout the first half feeling satisfied as they went into the locker room leading by a score of 38-28.
Miramar started the second half looking like a completely different team. The Jets started to make a comeback with two quick lay-ups closing the gap of the score to 38-32.
The battle continued back and forth with Ventura still maintaining a comfortable lead.
Although the Jets did start to cause a little bit of panic it was too little too late as the Pirates came out victorious, defeating the Jets 82-69.
Come support the Pirates home at VC in the second round of the 4th annual tournament on Nov. 18 at 7 p.m. against Antelope Valley.
