Jon and Kate exploit their 8 on television

Children have been taking a leading role in many reality television series as of late. TLC is packed full of shows like “Jon and Kate Plus 8” and “18 kids and Counting,” a show about a strict Baptist family, and “Toddlers in Tiaras,” which follows tiny pageant members and their stressed parents. Other examples of the craze are the ever popular Octo-mom, Nadya Suleman, who is planning to star in a reality series about her kids, and the newly famous Falcon Heene, the infamous balloon boy. MyVCCCD is a good change for students

The Ventura County Community College District is making the switch from WebSTAR to MyVCCCD, and with the VCCCD on the verge of making the change official, I suggest that any of you procrastinators jump on the band wagon. My VCCCD is a great program. It runs very smoothly, and the set up is great. You can find all your classes for the semester clearly posted right in your homepage, and you can click on any of them to see general information about the class. The homepage keeps you updated with campus announcements and events. There are also options of a VCCCD email address, groups and quick links to lots of different student services. The navigation is smooth and easy. Full story

An argument for health care reform

There are those who oppose health care reform and any sort of government provision of health care who would disagree with that statement. How far can you stretch the First Amendment?

Should videos of animals being tortured and killed be protected under the First Amendment, especially when the act is not?  According to an article that ran in the Los Angeles Times on Oct. 6, the Supreme Court heard the case of whether a 1999 law that expressly prohibited the sale and distribution of crush videos, which depicts small animals being crushed to death under a women’s high heel shoe, goes against freedom of speech.  It seems as though the Ventura County Community College District has made the worst decision yet.  It seemed as though things couldn’t get much worse when three sports programs were suspended at Moorpark College.
