VCCCD campuses prepare for graduation ceremonies

Students who have completed enough units to graduate from the Ventura College Community College District will be honored in graduation ceremonies held at the three campuses.

Ventura College will be graduating 1200 students, 500 of which will participate in the graduation ceremony.

The Forensics team from Moorpark College took a close second place overall at the Phi Rho Pi National Championships last weekend held in Chicago.

The team brought home 19 medals, as well as the Sylvia Mariner Cumulative Sweepstakes Award, becoming the only team to win the prestigious award seven times.

The smell of stale fruit hookah smoke fills the small apartment. The little one-bedroom, one-bath was sparsely furnished with one large table, used for beer pong, and a couch with a coffee table. Beer cans liter both tables, and fill four or five trash bags in the side yard.

The Year of the Environment at Moorpark College came to a close last Tuesday evening in the performing arts center during a lecture provided by the National Park Service on wild animals in rural areas.

Anthropology Professor John Baker announced the event to be the fourth memorial lecture dedicated to Gary Ogdan, a past professor at MC, explaining that "this lecture would be especially dear to him" due to his enthusiastic interest in the topic.

Moorpark College student Patrick Kelley is probably what many would consider average. He weighs around 160 lbs., approximately 5' 10'' in height and is 25 years of age. He's anything but average, however.

Living with cerebral palsy all his life, Kelley requires the use of either a walker or a wheelchair to go from place to place, yet he doesn't view himself as disabled.

Moorpark dominates at WSC track and field finals

The Moorpark College men's track and field team placed first in the Western State Conference finals Saturday, making them conference champions for the eighth year in a row.

The event, held at Moorpark College, featured 12 schools and was dominated by the Raiders.

Ever since we were little kids, we've been told stuff that turned out to not be true. Take good ol' Saint Nick for example. We also learned things like don't start a sentence with And. And that turned out to be false as well.

We get told quite a few things that aren't as they seem by a lot of people.

College is a strange place.

The population is so much broader and diverse than what I was previously accustomed to.

No one really cares what you do or look like, and no one takes note of any of this. People simply pass you by, taking no note of your existence.

In the impassioned debate of whether same sex couples should be allowed to marry. There is a big push in California for the Protect Marriage Act. It would amend the state constitution to clarify that a marriage is between a man and woman. Both sides of this bitter fight are misconstruing the reality.

Video games, not movies, kick off summer blockbuster season

If you think "Iron Man" the movie is the kicking off the summer blockbuster season, you're wrong. Something else is stealing the limelight away from Tony Stark's big-screen debut. Quite literally.

"Grand Theft Auto IV" for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, which released this past Tuesday, has been one of the most hotly anticipated video games in history.
