Last semester, Moorpark College’s and High Street Arts Center’s collaborative production of “I Do, I Do” was a success with audiences. This Sunday, it culminated its success by received three accolades at the community Four Star Awards.
The Four Star committee is formed by five different community theatres in Ventura County.
The Camarillo Community Theatre, The Elite Theatre in Oxnard, the High Street Arts Center in Moorpark, the Ojai Center Theater, and the Santa Paula Theater Center. This committee reviews each of the shows put out by the 5 member theatres, and votes on each one to determine a winner in each category.
“I Do I Do” won the awards for Best Female Lead-Sara Beth Markus, Best Costume Design-Sara Beth Markus, and Best Lighting Design-Melissa Pinza, for High Street. Brent Ramirez and Sara Beth Markus also highlighted the evening with a short medley from the show “My Cup Runneth Over/The Honeymoon is Over.”
“It’s a tremendous honor” said Director John Loprieno. “I’m not surprised that Sara and Brent were recognized. It just goes to show that there are great performers here at Moorpark, and that the students are doing work here that they can take, and could go out and do professional work with.”
